For the FIFTH straight year, Fayette Savings Bank has been voted BEST BANK in the Readers’ Choice “Best of Fayette” contest.“We are once again proud, honored and thankful to the voters who chose us for what we consider a most coveted award for a bank to receive,” says Wade Mozisek, FSB President. “It’s a strong affirmation of the trust and loyalty our customers and communities have in us."
Fayette Savings Bank (FSB) – in La Grange, Flatonia,Schulenburg and Weimar, for the FOURTH year in a row, captured the award of BEST BANK TELLER with Marissa Navarro from our La Grange bank winning.(Previous successive winners: Brandi Rerich & Cheryl Brossmann, Schulenburg; Shelby Weyand, La Grange).
“This shows a consistent commitment to excellent customer service, reflecting the skill, professionalism, and dedication of our deposit team – especially when it comes to handling deposits and customer interactions,” said Darlene Brothers, Sr. VP, Deposit Services. “This speaks highly of our team’s ability to build trust and provide a positive experience for our customers, which is likely why people feel comfortable trusting their money with our bank.”
One more FSB employee, Bryce Moerbe brought home the BEST COMPUTER TECH award for the FOURTH time in six years!
Fayette Savings Bank receives regular compliments from the public, recognizing its presence out in the communities, supporting civic, non-profits, schools, youth activities (sports, agriculture/stock shows), churches, etc.
“Yes, this does stretch the budget at times, but the expense side of it is really secondary,” said David Zapalac, a 44-year FSB veteran. “Community banking still matters and being out there, supporting all these causes, resonates with the people we serve.Community involvement isn’t a marketing strategy for us, it’s who we are. We don’t see it as just writing a check – we’re investing in our neighbors, our future, and the place we call home.
As a local, community bank, we deal with multiple generations of customers and their families,” Zapalac continued. “It’s important to recognize the needs and expectations each generation seeks;thus, we focus on keeping pace with modern technology while not forgetting the “old school” method of banking. Meeting our customer’s needs will always be at the forefront of our business plan."
“Our strength lies in being local, present, and intentional,”Mozisek said. “We prioritize giving back, not because we have to, but because it’s the right thing to do – and because
it’s part of what makes community banking so special.”
It’s not just about making monetary donations. FSB employees are often seen out volunteering at drive-thru dinners, fairs/ festivals, church picnics, school events, etc.. “Community involvement goes far beyond financial services,” Mozisek said. “Volunteerism is a natural extension of our commitment to giving back – and being present in the moments that matter most to our customers and communities allow us to connect on a more personal level and reinforce that FSB is not just a place to bank – it is part of the community fabric.”
Elder citizens will tell you, the scope of businesses in our area has changed dramatically from years past – more big box chain stores around now, as opposed to when nearly all businesses were of the “mom & pop” variety, family-owned.
Not that this is a bad thing, but often it’s those “mom & pop/ family owned” businesses that you see out in public supporting the community. “Living in a small, rural town sometimes means going out of your way (and budget) to shop and do business with the locally owned businesses,” Zapalac added.
Even the scope of banking has seen many local, community banks acquired by large, corporate banks with locations across the nation, where decisions are made in a corporate office miles away – decisions more concentrated on Wall Street than on Main Street.
“When residents choose FSB, they’re not just opening an account – they’re voting with their dollars to support a bank that puts local priorities first,” Mozisek said. “Every new customer is a sign of community trust. A checking account may seem simple, but it forms the backbone of a community bank’s deposit base.”
“Moving a checking account, with established auto payments and auto deposits set up, can seem overwhelming,” Brothers said. “However, we sit down with the customer in our office and call their companies, providing the new bank account information to ensure a smooth transition – all about making the process as simple and hands-on as possible to ease the stress for customers, making switching easier.”
As Zapalac said, “we are your ‘Tylenol’ for the ‘headache’ switching can bring.” In short, becoming a customer of Fayette Savings Bank is not just a financial transaction; it’s a partnership with a bank that’s deeply rooted in the community. A way for residents to directly support the mission they already admire, enabling FSB to continue making a difference where it matters most.
Fayette Savings Bank also proudly acknowledges that it has, once again, received a 5-Star Superior rating from BauerFinancial, the Nation’s Premier Bank Rating Firm.A 5-Star Superior rating indicates that Fayette Savings Bank is one of the strongest banks in the nation, excelling in areas of capital, loan quality, profitability and more. This marks the 75th consecutive quarter that Fayette Savings Bank has earned this top rating, which secures it an even more elite status as an “Exceptional Performance Bank”, an honor reserved solely for banks that have maintained a 5-Star rating for 10 years (40 consecutive quarters) or longer.
“A lot of things are changing”, reflects Karen L. Dorway, president of BauerFinancial. “Rules and regulations are being retooled, technology is advancing at lightning speed, and it’s easy to feel like you’re getting lost in the fray,” she continues. “People don’t want to feel like that at their bank. When they walk into a branch, they want to feel confident that their deposits are safe, that all rules are being followed, and that their banker understands their specific needs. That’s why it’s so important to have 5-Star rated (Superior) banks, like Fayette Savings Bank, in our communities. We can be confident that they have our hard-earned deposits properly secured.”
